WHO I AM (extended cut)
Originally from a large Amish and Mennonite family in a small Ohio town, Dillon has rooted his life and writing in an earnest pursuit of authenticity. As a teenager, he’d devour science fiction novels and musical theater bootlegs after days spent bailing hay—and in these stories he found the tools to imagine worlds and identities different from those he had been offered.
This imagination led him to Yale University, where he received his BA in Sociology with an independently crafted concentration in Performance in Society. Through the lens of social science, he explored how we write and perform our own stories—of race, gender, political ideology, and more. Connecting these studies to training in screenwriting and classical acting, he equipped himself to reflect on the ever-evolving human experience through the artforms that had inspired him. Ultimately, writing allowed him to process his own questions around faith, sexuality, and purpose as he tackled the complicated intersection of his upbringing and his queerness.
Upon graduating, Dillon moved to Brooklyn, where he has resided for the past six years. Fascinated by that which has been deemed deviant (often by religion), and believing that imagined realities allow us to most freely interrogate our own, he has particularly found a creative home in the worlds of horror and science fiction. While he predominantly writes for the screen, Dillon is also developing his first novel, and most recently, he wrote and directed an immersive adaptation of the Jacobean horror opus ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore. Supported by extensive acting training and additional experience as a director and independent producer, his work is informed by a robust understanding of the creative process and a hunger for collaboration.
